ABOUT HIDDEN TREASURES™
South African Hidden Treasures™ is one of the most innovative and far-reaching local tourism initiatives. Identified and developed by the Tourism Enterprise Partnership (TEP), it consists of unique small crafts and tourism experiences that provide visitors with an authentic taste of South Africa's rich and varied history and culture.
TEP stepped in as a necessary and active participant in the tourism service chain. It develops people (skills) and products (quality and diversity), in a combined format, for the purpose of creating an 'alternative face' to the traditional tourism experience of South Africa. Through South African Hidden Treasures™ TEP aim to comprehensively showcase the whole South African product. It envisages a web covering the country, a web that has so much to offer, is of such a high standard and is so well integrated into the transport and logistics infrastructure that it can be put on the world stage.
Particularly TEP wants South Africans to discover the wealth of people, places and experiences they are surrounded by. And TEP wants the world to come and stay with South African Hidden Treasures™, to hear their stories, enjoy their food, and listen to their music, to get to the heart and soul of what makes this country so special.
Exposing this undiscovered element of South Africa brings these products into the mainstream of tourism. This results in income-generating opportunities and sustainable job creation and equips small tourism businesses to take full advantage of business opportunities.
South African Hidden Treasures™ Experience add that 'special something' – often a personal experience - to any itinerary, and creates a unique and memorable encounter that is world-class, yet unmistakably South African.
It offers travel that engages the senses, stimulates the mind, includes unique activities, and connects on an emotional, spiritual or intellectual level. Experiences include artists, performers, tour guides, cuisine offerings, cultural and heritage products that will add a unique and authentic flavour to any tourism itinerary
South African Hidden Treasures™ Craft are limited edition, unique, hand-made South African craft pieces of a high quality standard that can be tailor-made to requirement.
It should come as no surprise that a country as beautiful and culturally diverse as South Africa has the most vibrant crafts industry on the continent. Small businesses from Cape Town's Imiso Ceramics to Zulu-lulu in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands are winning international acclaim for products that are as cutting edge as they are unique. Craft entrepreneurs across the country are preserving traditional skills, producing contemporary art pieces, and creating and sustaining numerous jobs.
For authentic, hand-made pieces that reflect the creativity of South Africans, be it for corporate gifts, once-off art pieces or crafts to support your offering, look no further than the TEP South African Hidden Treasures™ Crafts.

Over the past nine years TEP has worked with more than 1500 crafters. Amongst these TEP identified a number who are producing small quantities of high quality goods that are capable of being sold in the international market. These very talented and experienced crafters now form the back bone of the SA HT Craft project, which provides unique hand-made crafts locally and internationally and much needed market access for the artists
